“Australians need to change their attitude towards superannuation. Instead of it being the domain of older generations and linked to the age pension, younger generations need to get more involved. This is because by the time most older Australians start thinking seriously about super (unless they are high-income, $200,000-a-year earners able to save close to the maximum tax-concessional contributions for 20 to 25 years) many will have already missed the boat. The chances the majority of super savers have of accumulating a reasonable benefit will have been lost because they have left their run too late to finance the 30 years many will be living in retirement.”
